Passion cannot be found where it does not truly exist, nor can it be hidden where it truly does.
If there is one common denominator that most entrepreneurs would agree on, it’s that passion is essential for success in business. Passion is the only thing that will keep you going through the trials and tribulations that all young enterprises face. Passion for your product can make people perceive an otherwise mundane purchase into something far more magical.
If you’re not remotely passionate about what you’re marketing, get out. You’re not doing yourself or your company any favors. It’s unlikely you’ll be promoted to a satisfactory position. And your lack of passion may cause your brand to suffer mediocre sales.
Get out. Find something you love and you’ll be inspired the market the hell out of it. Now, obviously, I understand that not everyone is in the position to immediately leave their jobs. There’s mortgages, kids’ tuitions, eating. Maybe you can’t do it right now. All I’m saying is you need to look at the end game for your job. Is this really what you want to be doing? If you’re just punching in, you’ll never want to search for the key consumer insight or seek innovative new tactics to promote your particular brand. You’re just going to keep doing the same thing over and over again, and change only as a reaction to something else.
Everyone should be proud of what they do, proud of where they work. That’s where the best marketing comes from. Find a brand that you can love and share it with the world. Now, that’s true marketing.
